Martin Canillas, M.D. is a sports medicine physician, located in Brooksville, FL, as well as Hudson, FL, who provides non-surgical, conservative general orthopedics treatments to his patients, and specializes in acute and chronic sports injuries and pre-existing medical conditions that could have a negative impact in sports performance.
A graduate of the Universidad Nacional de Asuncion in Paraguay, Dr. Canillas was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but was raised in Asuncion, Paraguay, where he completed his medical education. Looking to improve his skills and expand his possibilities, he moved to the United States to pursue a career in sports medicine.
He chose the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City to begin his post-medical training, first in Family Medicine, and later on in Sports Medicine, where he was honored with the “Best Teacher as Resident” award.
During his training in sports medicine and non-surgical orthopedics, he had the opportunity to be exposed and take care of elite athletes in the NBA (Oklahoma City Thunder), NCAA Division I (Oklahoma Sooners), AAA Baseball (OKC Red Hawks), AHL (OKC Barons), and several Division II universities and high schools. Dr. Canillas has also been part of medical teams in charge of sporting events, such as in marathons and Ironman Triathlons.
After completing all his medical training, Dr. Canillas worked as a part of a multi-specialty group in Bristol, CT for 3 years, where he became a very renowned doctor in the city and surrounding towns.
With extensive, real-world experience in the overall treatment of many musculoskeletal conditions, Dr. Canillas aims to help those suffering from orthopedic health issues in which surgery may not be the best solution.
Dr. Canillas, with his wife Violeta and three daughters, re-located to Pasco County where they decided to settle. A former professional basketball player, avid soccer and tennis fan, Dr. Canillas and his family are enjoying the Florida lifestyle.
